Audio CD's arent playing correctly

I am having problems playing audio CD's in my CD rom. They are all store
bought CD's. When I try to play them(Through media player) the audio sounds
all distorted and scratchy. It seems like the CD is skipping or something
like that. I tried to turn down the acceleration but that had no effect. All
the drivers appear to be fine (No yellow ! or red X)
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem so I can listen to audio CD's
on my computer?
