Rather disturbing issue. Windows XP Pro SP 2. Somehow a new folder has
been created and is being used to store application data for a non-
admin user on this box. This used to be the standard folder, C:
\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data. But now it is C:
\Toepassingsgegevens. (this is a Dutch language version of XP and
'Toepassingsgegevens' is the Dutch translation for Application Data.)
I first noticed this when I launched Thunderbird: all my mail accounts
were gone. But the data was still where it should be, ie in C:
\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Thunderbird. After
a while I noticed the new folder C:\Toepassingsgegevens, which already
contained several folders such as Thunderbird, Microsoft and
Macromedia. I simply copied all folders from the old location to the
new folder, and so far things seem to be working fine.
Now, my question is: what on earth can have created the new folder and
made the system think it should use that one and not the regular
folder? And how can I revert this?
