I have finally narrowed down my search for the LCD. Originally I was
looking at 19" LCDs and in this category I like the Samsung 930/940b
with 700:1 and 8ns. However, recently I have stumbled upon rebates for
the Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP 20" LCD which has 1600x1200 (19" has
1280x1024), 16ns, 400:1. With the rebates it is $430 where the Samsung
is $350. It is not much of a price difference considering a long-term
purchase of a monitor.
However, the 2001FP is nearly 2-years old, it has mixed reviews, and
the specs are not as good as the Samsung. I know there is also the
2005FPW, but its not on sale (price now is about $550 which is high out
of my range) I know that regular Windows apps will benefit from the
higher resolution, but I also extensively play Flight Simulator 2004,
sometimes Call of Duty, etc.
In your opinion, which of the two monitors would you get in terms of
quality.
Would playing the games at higher resolution (FS2004) give lesser
performance (FPS)? The system running the LCD is new and high-specs
(Nvidia 7-series, 256mg RAM)
What is most important to me is picture quality for FS2004 and Windows
apps. The Samsung looks wonderful, the Dell I obviously cannot see
since its mail-order. In your opinion, what choice would you make?
Kind regards,
George B.
