MAYDAY! File Name Warning--Program Files to Program1?

Okay, I have had some issues with McAfee for a while now, and I was given a
few sets of instructions on how to remove the software from different tech
support ppl.

I finally have it all removed and was told to reinstall the software while
in safe mode, but upon finally removing everything (in safe mode), when my
computer restarted, I received this warning:
http://reaganator.com/filename.jpg, "There is a file or folder on your
computer called 'C:\program' which could cause certain apps to not function
correctly. Renaming it to 'C:\program1' would solve this problem. Would you
like to rename it now?"

I have no idea how that happened while removing the McAfee files, nor do I
know which to answer for considering I need to reinstall McAfee.

Can someone please give me a hand?

Thank you much!!!

What is, or was, in the folder C:\Program? Not a standard
Windows XP folder.

that came from; should I delete that file?

Delete it, it's a zero bit file anyhow.

Back to your original question:

"There is a file or folder on your
computer called 'C:\program' which could cause certain apps to not function
correctly. Renaming it to 'C:\program1' would solve this problem. Would

Some application at startup, is not handling long filenames correctly.
Maybe a screensaver or a desktop wallpaper application?

Anyway, the real path is 'C:\program files\....' but the application cannot
handle the path without quotes around it.

If the pathname was referenced as "C:\program files\...", the offending
application probably would have been able to handle it.

Either something has changed some reference in the registry to open a file
based on "c:\program ..." and deleted the quotes, or has removed quotes
around the arguements used (e.g., "%1", or "%*").

I would search for that .jpg file and found out where it is located. Maybe
that will give you and idea who was trying to use it.

BTW: After working with McAfee, dealing with many different PC, I got sick
and tired of always getting the answeer to my questions to always be the
same ... Uninstall Everything/Cleanup/Reinstall. I did this over 8 times on
one PC, and problems kept cropping up. Most of the Tech Reps on the
internet chat and their forums, absolutely, 100%, do not know how there
software is designed or put together.

They don't even ask you to look in their logs, prior to having your
uninstall/cleanup/reinstall. The errors are right there ... but they know
that their software is failing all over the place, and do not want to
address them.

Just a heads up ... and I'm not a newbie ... 25 years in Unix AND Windows
design.
