I am in the process of upgrading my hard drive and am having a few probs.
I tried to perform a clean install on the new drive (Maxtor 6H500F0) but it
is not being recognised. My original drive is a SATA interface, the new one
SATAII. My motherboard (ASUS K8V SE Deluxe) will support this. I have the
manufacturers SATA drivers and add them at the initial stage of installation
(something i learned about the hard way when adding my old drive, a Maxtor
6Y160M0) but no joy. The drive is powered and connected correctly and
configured to operate at SATA transfer rates (using jumper setting) as
recommended by Maxtor and ASUS.
The only other thing I can think of is to startup XP on my old drive and
perform an installation to the second drive (connected as a secondary drive)
from within Windows. I don't know if this is possible and will need to get a
second SATA cable before I can try.
Any advice on whether this would work, any advice on how to go about it or
any alternative suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
