File size remains the same after deleting slides

I split up a presentation and deleted slides on each because the file was too
large to email. The second file size remained the same after deleting half
the slides. Is there some compacting action that needs to be performed?

If you are running PPT 2003 or earlier, go to Tools--> Options, Save tab and
turn off Fast Saves. Resave the files under new names and they should
shrink.

And while you are at it, check out this entry in the PPT FAQ:
Do this before using PowerPoint seriously
