embeded wav plays in PP editor but will not play from PP Player

I embedded a wav file in a PP Presentation and it will play back within the
PP Editor. After saving the PP Presentation I tried to play the Presentation
from its folder by double clicking on it. The Presentation plays fine except
the embedded music does not play. The music was not linked. I even removed
the musice from the hard drive to see if it would play. It will play using
the PP Editor replay but will not play from its own folder using the PP
Player I"m at a loss. I am using Power Point 2003 by the way. I also
adjust the wav limit file size to 8000kb and the file is appoximately 6500kb.
Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks in advance

Is the file size limit set before or after you insert the music?
Try turning fast saves off to see if it helps.
Go to Tools > Options. Under the save tab, uncheck allow fast saves.
Now, insert the music again and save your work. See if it works this time
round.

Hi tohlz

First of all thanks for the quick response. The bad news I have is
that the suggestions didn't work. I did just as you suggested and even
enlarged the file limit size again before inserting and again, it will play
fine within the editor but will not paly from its own folder with the PP
Player. Almost sounds like it is linked but isn't since I removed it from
the hardrive and it still played in the editor. If you have anymore
suggestions, more than willing to give them a try. I've only been playing
with power point for about 8-10 months and I'm 78 yrs old so hope I can get
this worked out soon :) thanks again

When you right click on the speaker icon on your slide and select "Edit Sound
Object", does it say that the file is "contained in presentation"?

Check to make certain the path/filename to the presentation is not more than
127 characters.

Hello Sonia,

The only problem I have with your suggestion is that I don't have that
option on the right click menu. I inserted the 6.5 mb wav file as an object
but after it is inserted and I right click on the speaker icon, it has many
options but not one that says "edit sound" Their is one that says edit object
but that one takes you to the Windows Wav Recorder and that wouldn't
accomplish anything. Any further suggestions, I'm still open. Thanks.

Ah. Is there a reason that you didn't use Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound
from File? That's the way to embed the WAV. Give it a try and let us know if
it makes a difference.

Hi Sonia,
I did this and it worked fine and I did get the "contained in
presentation"after I did it this way. I sure appreciate your responses. It
was basically my mistake. For some reason I interpreted embed and Object one
and the same. I have made a few presentations with music but they were all
put on CD and I was able to put all the music on the CD so was no problem. I
was just trying to make up a presentation that could be e-mailed. It's a
shame that wav files have to be so large. I did download a program that says
it will convert all to play in PP Presentations. I tried it and it converted
the 6mb wav file I am using into a 600kb wma file but then it put into the
folder with the presentation so they do reduce the size but it has to be in
the folder with the presentation. I hope I'm not being too long winded with
you but thought you might like to know what I've been doing. I would have
got back to you sooner but didn't get the notice in my e-mail and just
checked this page tonight. I think I know the answer to this question but am
I correct in that you can only embed wav files and no other music. Thanks
for you time and letting me burn your ear.
