Can anyone please help!!

Whenever I try to play an avi or Mpg file with windows media player 9.0b I get the message “Windows Media Player Has Encountered a problem and Needs To Close”
The details of the problem indicate that it is caused by QUARTZ.DLL

I am able to get it working by running the following command

“regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\quartz.dll”

All will work fine until I restart windows. Then the same thing will happen until I run the command again.

This is a real pain and seems to be linked to the quartz.dll not being registered properly.

Can anyone suggest a fix for this problem?

Can you run "msconfig" for me from the run box, and tell me the list of everything that shows on startup?

If all else fails, you could add this line "regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\quartz.dll" to your startup folder as a shortcut... but that isn't an optimum solution.

Thanks for your reply, the items below are listed in my startup.

CTHELPER
UPDREG
SETICON
SAISMART
QTTASK
PRONOMGR
PROFILER
ADGJDET
E_S10iC2
DSOUTPUTENABLER
ZLCLIENT
NEROCHECK
CLONECDTRAY
VPTRAY
REALTIME
CTFMON
ACROBAT ASSISTANT
ADOBE GAMMA LOADER

i HOPE THIS HELPS.

OK, can you click the "disable all" button and restart to see if that has any effect? This will narrow down the problem and tell us if it is something at startup causing this :)

Tried,

No change, still have to run that command each time windows loads. Or WMP will just crash!!

Yes 9b installed.

It is realy frustrating.

I have run out of ideas.

Could it be somthing to do with audio??

Try this .... Rename the quartz.dll file.

Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
In the Named box, type quartz.dll, and then click Find Now.
Right-click the Quartz.dll file, and then click Rename.
In the Named box, type quartz.bak, and then click OK.

Download and install the Windows Media Player installer file, from the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/download/default.asp

Test to determine if the issue is resolved. If it is not, use Registry Editor to remove the following registry key, follow steps 1 through 5 again, and then test again:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Media Type
