why won't my "new" button work?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, lenora asked:

More information, please. What version of Outlook are you using? Are you
clicking New on the Standard toolbar while you're in your Calendar folder?
Do you get any error messages, and if so, what is the exact text of the
message(s)?
