Epson R300/310 Black head Blocked.??

Just picked this printer R310 that the seller was claiming to be
not working after a paper jam, and gave a General Error warning.

I only paid $5nz for it.

Had a look over it and unlocked the print head to see if it moves seems
OK.

So powered it up, seems to be OK no errors.?

Did not print the nozzles test so did a head clean, it came up not
enough ink to do a clean, found that the Black cartridge was empty, the
printer came with a spare Epson Black.

In the end I ran a few cleans and nozzles checks, the colours are all OK
But no Black at all.

The printers is fitted with Epson ink cartridges, But the Black one that
I replaced was Dated use before 10/2008 .???

I will not try to remove the print head that I have seen in many
articles as I don't have the Epson alignment CD that is referred to in
the Service manual.

I have done this in the past with a Colour 740 but that has a factory
set head aliment pin, so the head goes back in the same place..

Never seen head cleaning kits here and Windex is not sold here, and
far to many conflicting advice on what is safe to use.

If you can make a cleaning cartridge for your R300 a good proportional
cleaning solvent would be 10% ammonia/90% isopropyl alcohol. I've used that
fine with both pigment and dye based inks for years without any problems.

Use window cleaner for the solvent to clear the heads.

What you are saying it's most likely to be a crust built up on the print
head. Blocking it off.

what I have done is saturated some paper towel sliding it under the head
and let the head soak in that. (several times)

You can buy a head cleaning kit from ink republic. which has cartridges
and fluid. but I still had to soak to clean the crust off.

I use Isopropyl Alcohol. Is easy to obtain as "Dry Gas" in many outlets. Not "rubbing
alcohol which is usually 70% alcohol. Just make sure it is Isopropyl (isopropanol).

It is a good cleaning solvent that isn't injurious to most plastics and is a standard in
the electronics industry.

alcohol and ammonia - here is a recipe to make some.


2 cups rubbing alcohol (70 percent isopropyl)
1/2 cup ammonia
1 tsp dish detergent (liquid)
top with water until you have 1 gallon of window cleaner


I have cleaned both my R200 and R1800 with window cleaner from the
supermarket so its not necessary to buy individual parts as you may
never use them up. As well high concentrations of some of the
ingredients may affect the plastic.
