Booting from Windows CD

Guest

I bought my PC from Multivision (a company which no longer exists) in 2002.
It came with Windows XP pre-installed and I have the original Windows disk.

It has several problems recently and I am trying to repair the Windows XP
installation by booting from the CD. I choose the 'Windows Set-up' option,
not the 'R' for repairing using the Recovery Console. I understand that at
this stage I should be able to choose between 'Repair' and 'Install'. What I
get is the screen with the licence conditions. When I press F8 to agree to
the conditions, nothing happens. if I press ESC, ir responds, and re-starts
the pC without doing anything, so it has not actually frozen up.

So it looks as if I can neither repair nor re-install XP.

Can anyone advise me what I can do.

Thanks

If you have a Microsoft Office Keyboard installed...

pressing F8 to agree to the EULA is ignored, preventing Setup from
continuing.
This behavior occurs because the default behavior of the Office keyboard
when you start your computer is to use the programmed functions of the F1 -
F12 keys, NOT the standard functions.

To workaround this behavior, press the F LOCK key on the Office keyboard,
press F8 to agree to the EULA, and continue Setup.
