XP Startup screen says "new messages" when there are none

My Windows XP startup screen keeps telling me that I have one more more
unread messages for my user when there are none. It randomly will disappear,
however will later reappear with a different number of messages. If anyone
knows how to correct this reporting error it would be appreciated. Thanks!

You can turn off the display of unread messages on the welcome screen by
downloading and running TweakUI from here.

Run it and expand the Logon section.
