XP Standby & wakeup for scheduled task

I have XP Home set up to go into Standby mode after an hour of
inactivity...no problem.

I have scheduled backup set to run at 2am and wake up to run it. It wakes
up fine and runs fine and the Scheduled Task screen shows it finished fine.
The PC comes to life & does it's thing even though the monitor stays powered
off (good). The problem is that after the task is done running, the PC will
not return to Standby...the fans keep running just like it's fully powered
up except that the monitor is off. Even though the task takes approx 20
minutes to run, when we wake up in the morning it's still running. During
testing we were able to monitor that it never does go back off.

Anyone know why the PC won't return to Standby mode?

I've got the same thing running on another PC and it wakes up, does it's
thing, and then returns to Standby just fine. Any ideas where to look?

Does the "other PC also use Windows XP?

What you describe is exactly how my 3 XP PC's work. They also never go back
to sleep. I think that is because they are waiting for me to click on OK
after the backup has completed.

Both PC's use XP Home. One works, the other doesn't. Even on the one that
will not go back to sleep, the backup finishes & closes...there is no button
that needs to be pushed. When you do bring the monitor back to life by
moving the mouse, pressing a key, etc, then there is nothing on the screen
that requires user input.

I still haven't been able to find anything on the net about this one.
Anyone have any ideas??? I'd hate to resort to doing away with the
scheduled tasks I have running over night and have to run them
manually...kinda defeats the purpose...
