I have a Gateway computer with a flat panel monitor
(FPD1500 Gateway as well). I installed the SP2 and when
it completed the install and rebooted, the monitor stayed
in sleep mode (yellow light on monitor) and wouldnt go to
desktop. The only way to get to desktop is to start in
safe mode. I even reformatted the HD and installed OS
again and then immediately downloaded all updates
including SP2 and got the same thing. I even went into
safe mode and went to MSCONFIG and set it to startup in
diagnostics mode and that didnt work either. My friend
has the SAME exact computer as I do with the exception
being the monitor (he has a regular monitor). Any ideas?

Hello Kyle

Try changing your display driver to VGA then boot normally. If this works, I would suggest looking on
Gateway's for an updated video driver.

Hope this helps

David,

I have the identical situation with the same Gateway LCD (FPD1500). Gateway
doesn't provide driver updates for this model. The display works fine with
WinXP SP2 if I go into Safe Mode. I cannot find any VGA mode within WinXp
config... do you have instuctions how to into VGA Mode for WinXP SP2 if it
is not a listed mode??

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I have 2 systems with the FPD1500 monitor. They worked fine until I applied
SP2. After SP2, they will not start. They come on OK, display the Windows
XP splash screen and then go into sleep mode when the system starts the
proper display mode before the Windows XP login screen is displayed. If I go
into safe mode and uninstall the video adaptor and restart the system, it
will start properly. After it comes up, it finds the video adaptor and
installs it and the session proceeds OK. I can reset the resolution and
number of colors to 1024x768 and Highest (32 colors) and things look fine.
However, when I restart the system, it hangs up after the Windows splash
screen and the monitor goes to sleep.

If I put it into VGA mode, it will come up OK. But once I change any
resolution or number of colors, it imediately goes to sleep.
I would appreciate any help you could offer.
Thanx,

Charlie Brown

Dale, Charlie Brown,

I can only repeat David's advice. Do as he says, and your
computer will work.
