XP restarts when loading

O

ouch

safe mode does it too.

I recently installed a new mother board. when i turn it
on windows starts but then restarts the machine.

I tried the recovery console but it keeps giveing access
denied. how Microsoft can legaly call it a recovery
console if you can't modify anything is beyond me.

anyone know anything I could try without reformatting
and/or re-installing windows?

If I could get a dos prompt to c:\ I think I could track
down the driver cause the issues. (I think it's just an
old driver, but which one?) So far every boot disk I
found can only access my floppy drive and my cdrom.

Use the second Repair Option in the XP Installation procedure. Don't select
the first Repair. Continue on as if you were going to do a clean install.
The XP Installation will find your already installed XP and then will give
you the option of Repair. If by some chance the Repair option is NOT there -
do not continue as you will lose all data. The Repaie option will not lose
your data. You will have to re-install SP1 and any other updates.

You have to do this Repair Installation because of the new motherboard.

Well I don't have my XP CD as I have lost it when I moved.

I think I just need a dos boot disk that can access the
drive windows is installed on. (c:\)

is there a config.sys or autoexec.bat line I can type in
to get dos to reconize my harddrive?
