Hi
After noticing Windows XP Pro slowing down noticeable and after several
Defragmentations, I tried the German Utilities Tool "Tune Up". This speeded
things up a bit but my computer still seems a bit slow responding. I have heard
of Norton Utilities but my local computer repair man says its, to use his own
words "Norton Utilities crap, it causes more problems than it cures". I have
seen several reg and file utilities advertised but don't know what to go for.
Can anyone recommend software thast can keep my registry and files in good
order with the average computer fans Tec know how needed

Regards
Chris

I am suspicious of all these paid for tune up packages - the things that
they do successfully can normally be done by simple means using
suggestions you will find here, and the Microsoft Powertoy TweakUI.

It *is* valuable to do a scan now and again for Spyware - use Adaware or
Spybot to clean up

Mostly what you need to do is run Disk Cleanup now and again; including
(at times when you are sure the system is in a good state and you will
not want to restore to earlier) using its More Option to Delete all but
the latest restore point. Couple that with defragmenting the disk
afterwards.

And look in a run of MSConfig.exe at the Startup page to see if there
are things running there that you do not want loaded automatically, and
