XP Professional Installation

Issue:

During the installation of XP Professional the installation bombs at the
final stage. Note: even tried installation of Windows 2000 Professional
(same issue).

The system that I'm installing onto is a Dell Inspiron 8600 with 2GB memory
(2 sticks). To get either OS to install, I have to remove 1GB of memory (1
stick). Once the 1GB of memory is removed (leaving 1GB), either OS will
install fine.

Is there an issue with either of these OS's installing with that amount of
memory?

I checked (briefly) with Dell's Forum and couldn't find anything.

Thanks.

Dale,

We have customers installing with 4GB of memory with no problem. What do
you mean by the "installation bombs at the final stage"?

It fails to read the CD/Needed Files.

Our institution has the MCLA and so we've tried other CD's but still the
same problem.

It's just whenever the system has 2GB in it will it bomb. With 1GB,
installation is flawless.

Thank you.

Dale,

Does it fail on the same file everytime? We've seen this happen before with
mismatched piece of RAM.
