XP Professional hangs up



I recently installed Norton via a download from Comcast on my PC running XP
Professional. After the install the computer would hang up at the Logon
screen, I was able to start in Safe Mode. I called Comcast who turned me over
to Norton support, they took control of my PC and managed to install Norton
and everything look good. The next day when I tried to start the computer it
hung up again and this time I could not get into Safe Mode anymore. I tried
the repain in Microsoft Article 307545, I was able to complete step one but
can not do step two because I still can not get into Safe Mode. When I try
Safe Mode it takes a very long time but finally opens to the welcome screen
and is frozen.
Any ideas what I can do next?
