xp pro installation failed

Error message:The request could not be performed
because of an I/O device error.
Fatal Error. One of the components Windows needs
to continue setup could not be installed.
Can anyone please advise?

Are you installing from the original XP CD? The error message you are seeing could be indicative of a bad burn.

It looks like an original. I'm trying to install for a friend.
Might be a case of the blind leading the blind though.
