XP Printers Folder Problems

I'm having problems with my Printers File.

When I open the printers folder either from 'start' or from the Control
Panel, there are no printers showing within it - although I currently have
three printer options through the 'file-print' menu through, for example
Excel.

I need to remove a printer but cannot.

There's probably a very simple solution but I've no idea what it is??
