Rob

I have been running XP for a while now and I have always
had the same problems...it runs for a while then it locks
up. It may run for 8 day then lock up, it may run for 3
hours then lock up, it locks up with other applications
running and it locks up with out other applications
running. Once it locks up I may as well shut down for
the day because it will lock up three to four more times
in the next hour. I have updated to the hilt in oreder
to correct this and nothing has helped. Anyone with any
ideas....I have an Atlhon 1.3, 752 RAM.

Thanks in advance

Hi Rob,

Suggestions:

You can use Event Viewer to view and manage the event logs, gather
information about hardware and software problems, and monitor Windows
security events.

To view the event log: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or
Start/Run/eventvwr.

To review Shutdown Event Tracker data, Open Event Viewer. Click System Log,
scroll to the Event column, and find entries with the number 1075.

And also:

Go to Start/Run/Msinfo32/Hardware Resources, Components/Problem Devices and
Software Environment/Windows Error Reporting.

Go to Help and Support/Pick a Task (left side)/Use Tools to view.../(left
pane)My Computer Information/(right pane)View the status of my system
hardware and software/Hardware/Update and Troubleshooters.

Try running the DirectX Tool: Start/Run/Dxdiag, Lower Hardware Acceleration
(Display/Settings/Advanced/Troubleshoot/Hardware Acceleration).

I have the same problem and the same system. Any luck
fixing yours yet?

Unfortunately there is nothing being written to any logs
that I can find. I have checked the error reporting and
there is nothing in there as well. I have also cheecked
all of my updates and drivers for the hardware and so far
everything is updated and running correctly (at least
nothing shows that it is running incorrectly). any other
thoughts?

Thanks in advance

(various snippage)

Rob - Random freezing like that is usually because of hardware failure.
Here are some generic troubleshooting steps for hardware: 1) open the
computer and run it open, cleaning out all dust bunnies and observing
all fans (overheating will cause system freezing); 2) test the RAM - I
like Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com - let the test run for an
extended (like overnight) period of time - unless errors are seen
immediately; 3) test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from the
mftr.; 4) test the motherboard.

Malke
