HI I have a delimma and need some help. I maintain a PC
at work it is set up with limited accounts and admin
accounts. One of the limited users is finding a way to
access passwords and make drastic changes to the pc like
uninstalling the antivirus software. This user( a youth)
tells us that he can use a command prompt from his
accouts to access all accounts. Is this possible and if
so how do I prevent this. To date i have set all accounts
as limited except my own and hidden admin is now password
secure. I have not seen the youth do this however he
showed a staff person he used 8 keystrokes and presto
all passwords appeared. If anyone has any info on this at
all i woul;d appreciate hearing from you
thanks in advance

Ask him to show you.
And also talk to your HR department or his boss.

Greetings --

Are you using the NTFS or the FAT32 file system? FAT32 has _no_
security capabilities, you know.

Also, as long as this "youth" has physical access to the machine,
there will always be ways for him bypass/obtain passwords. There are
literally dozens of free password cracking utilities freely available
on the Internet to anyone who can even spell "Google."

My main question would be: why is this "precocious" "child" being
allowed anywhere near a business computer? This question becomes even
more urgent since he's so ably demonstrated his untrustworthiness.

Ah! That explains much. May I also suggest, then, that you
upgrade the machine to WinXP Pro, use Groups Policies to "lock it
down," and ensure that your "culprit" never be allowed unsupervised
access to the machine?
