XP 'Forgets' Folder customizations

B

Bradley Walker

I have the latest Windows XP Powertools installed using Windows XP SP1 with
all the hotfixes/updates installed from windowsupdate. One of the features
I have found myself needing that powertools offers is the ability to expand
how many folders that XP keeps track of the customizations of. Since I deal
with alot of audio/video work sometimes I like to have certain folders have
a 'Detailed' listing of files while others standard "List View' works fine.
Currently I have the PowerTools -> Explorer -> Customizations set to
remember the last 10,000 folders. This has been working for several weeks
since I installed Windows XP SP1.

Lately XP has been 'forgetting' the customizations to certain folders even
after a recent use. For example with the recycle bin. I have that set to
full screen, detailed view. Although after I close it, or even reboot I
comeback and open the recycle bin, it's window is partially open using the
large icons basically using the system default window settings. This is
really getting annoying after fixing it for the 20th time today and still
not having it fixed. I even upped the Powertools customization limit to
50,000 knowing there is no way I have that many folders so it should
remember all folder sizes. Unfortunately that didn't work either.

I really am out of ideas and this mostly is getting very annoying having to
set and reset window properties each time I use it. Plus it's wasiting alot
of my time doing so. Does anyone have *any* ideas on how to fix this???

That will not work. TweakUI (for XP) V2.10.0.0 sets an incorrect key in the registry.

Instead, I suggest you visit MS-MVP Kelly's website at
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Note the instructions at the top of the page,
then scroll down to line 2,
(Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000)

Right-click the hyperlink, then click | Save Target As |
to download the file, "bags8000.reg",
then double-click the file and follow the prompts.
