XP does not save changes on restart

My XP professional will not save ANY software or hardware
changes after I install any driver or any windows updates
when it restarts. I have to install my NIC driver every
time I restart to get the internet, also my windows
setting such as colors will go back to default. Also I
downloaded updates to windows and when I restart, the
updates show as still needng to be installed. I have an
Asus A7N8X Deluxe board, which uses the nForce 2 chipset
and ATA drivers. I suspect the ATA drivers but I'm not
sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
