Xp:Check Disk:Tools:Check Now:Both Options:reboot countdown does not complete?

I am having problems with with check disk
I select tools->Check Now->Check both options->Start->Then reboot as
required for the check options (on drive C)
The box starts up, the countdown displays, it starts counting down and then
just reboots again
The can repeat unless I select the space bar option not to do the disk check

Anyone had this problem before?

I'm doing this becuase I suspect there may be an gradualy evolving disk
issue.

Disk check works fine if I do not slect the 2 optional options. Works fine
on other volumes.

Dell Diminesion 8200, Xp fully patched etc

If you have an XP OEM Disk, you can boot to the Recovery Console
and from there do a Chkdsk C: /R. Also, you might download the mfg's
diagnostic for the drive. It will be offered either as a Bootable floppy or
a Bootable CD-R Iso image.
You mentioned an escalating disk issue - could you elaborate ?

Yep
- very ocassionally there is an audiable noise associated with disk access
(normally I cannot here a thing), gives me the impression its retrying - if
that makes sense...
- have already downloaded a Western Digital utility
The drive in question is a WDC WD1200JB
The utility does not indicate any problems. However, from memory there
were some other utilities on the web site. Might check those out in the
mean time.

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by

Chkdsk Runs Each Time That You Start Computer

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Highlight the Winlogon file.

In the list look for "SFCScan", this should be set to (0) if it is set to
(1) the scan will happen at every boot.
