XP boots slow...icons slow to appear...then works great!

All of a sudden my XP home OS boots up slow. It will
hang up on the welcome screen for 30 seconds or so and
then when it goes to the desk top it take over a minute
before the desktop icons appear. After that the
computers speed runs perfectly. During my trial and
error attempts of fixing my problem I have found that if
I unplug my network cable which goes to my cable modem
the computer boots up fine. I have also found in safe
mode it also boots fine with network cable pulgged in. I
tried disabling all startup programs but still happens. I
have ran ad-ware software to remove ads ect....still
happens. I threw in another hard drive and reloaded xp
to make sure it wasn't a hardware problem and it works
perfectly so that rules out hardware issues. I went
through all my services in msconfig trying to see which
services may be locking up my computer and I found when
diabling the workstation service along with norton
internet security service my problem goes away. I then
uninstalled internet security and it still happens. I
went back into msconfig and disabled workstation service
only and everything works great! I see on my other 2
computers that this service is running and running fine
on them so there must be something conflicting on this
system that wont allowing it to run right. Any ideas?
Any help is appreciated!

Do you use nortons internet security?
I had the same problem. I uninstalled then reinstalled it
and everything works fine now.

The computer is appearently having difficulties recieving its IP-Adress from
your DHCP server. Firewalls and other security programs may cause this
problem. Either uninstall them, fix the settings, or set them up not to
start when the computer starts, but so that you have to start it manualy.
