WMP10

Hi I can't get WPM10 to play AVI files, Iv'e posted 3 or 4 posts on this problem the first was
12-7-04, but got no answers to any of them. Is there a problem with SP2, that screws up WMP? In fact
Real Player won't play AVI files either, and this only began with the addition of SP2.
I can't be the only person with this problem. It makes it very difficult for me to make a movie
without being able view the clips I am using. So I ask again, why won't avi files run on these
players? It's got to be something in SP2 to affect to different players the same way. So I would like
someone on this service to answer this delema. I would appreciate all the help you can give.

.. Look in Folder Options...File Types...make sure AVI file extensions is
enabled to associate with WMP

It is set as you say,but still won't play, it stops right after it starts, short bursts of sound and
video and freezes, after a few minutes it does this all over again. Video freezes to a still frame,
sound only when it starts up again. The duration is only a few seconds or less.

I am having the same problem, I have all settings correct, but still won't
play AVI files, as you say this has only started since SP2 installed.

They may be encoded using DivX - that came out after XP. The original
DivX codec causes trouble with SP2. Get a new copy from
http://www.divx.com/divx/?src=toptab_divx_from_/software/index.php
