I have a strange problem: On my Toshiba Laptop 7100 (PIII 600 wt
Docking Station) with Win 2000 SP4 I have a wireless LAN USB adapter.
Everything works fine, especially Internet access via a DSL-Router
SMC7004. But when I connect the LAN-Port via Ethernet to the router
instead (having disabled the USB Adapter before), I have no Internet
access. TCP/IP works, because I can establish a FTP-Connection to
another PC in the network. But the DNS doesn't work, though the
network setting are exactly the same as with the USB Adapter (only
different IP adress). I use two fixed DNS Servers, fixed IPs (no DHCP)
and the router as standard gateway. Even more strange, the laptop can
ping another client PC in the network, but not the router to which it
is attached (timeout), not to speak of any IP adress in the internet
or the DNS servers. Anyone any ideas? Thx.

Posting copies of the TCP/IP configuration and route table in a news
group reply might enable someone to spot the problem. With the
wireless adapter disabled and the Ethernet adapter enabled, enter
these lines in a command prompt window:

ipconfig /all >net.txt
route print >>net.txt

Then, copy and paste the contents of the "net.txt" file into your
reply.

fixed it myself. switched to DHCP on router and all clients, suddenly
everything works.

Thanks for the help, but I already fixed it. switched to DHCP, now
everything works fine.
