Further to my last post:-

"I am having a problem with my PC continuing to be 'busy' for about 5
minutes after start-up. The little red light on the front of the PC stays on
(and flickering) for about 5 minutes after the PC has started and the mouse
pointer is very 'jerky' when i move the mouse (as if the system resources
are being taken away for some other task). I do a ctrl-delete to see what's
running but there's nothing out the ordinary in there (as far as i'm aware).
After about 5 minutes things seem OK.

I was wondering if there was a program which would show me exactly what the
PC was doing while this red 'busy' light is on.

I have also recently noticed that whilst playing mp3s if i open a new
program then the mp3 sound stutters a lot, which never used to happen.
System restore did nothing neither !"

Well further to that, i downloaded Ad-aware 6.0, Spybot Search & Destroy,
Start-up inspector, SafeXP, Did a virus scan, you name it, i tried it.
Ad-aware moved something like 70 suspects, spybot moved a few also, Virus
found something in the system restore files and deleted it. However, after
re-booting i had the exact same problems, even when i type my password in on
the log-in screen, the start up jingle sounds very 'choppy'. When i play
mp3's they're ok until i try to do something else (such as open a program),
then it gets very 'choppy' until the other program has loaded up properly,
and the mouse also moves 'jerky'.

Might it be something to do with display settings, because this had never
happened before and i cannot think of any software i have recently installed
which might be causing problems.

Please help me, i cannot think of what to do next (other than format
!!!!!!!!!)

Cheers
Andy

Moved 70 suspects huh, moved what where,or dont they tell you that.
The 3rd party stuff like you installed does nothing but slow xp down, some
actually contribute since they now have active x controlls on youre machine.
Try installing xp cd,exit the info page, restart computer, boot to xp cd,recovery,
press enter for password,at cmd screen type:CHKDSK C: /R
When its thru, type:EXIT remove cd,let xp boot.

Andrew, what have I told you about not replying unless you know what you're
on about (which I have yet to see you demonstrate). 'R' has the correct
answer. 3rd party applications slow your system down, do they?! Well, let me
do a quick tally - yes, I must have around 40 3rd-party applications
installed - according to you my system shouldn't really be working at all.
But it runs, sweet as a nut. Do you actually know what "active x controlls"
[/sic/] are?! Of course you don't, you just like throwing meaningless terms
around in an effort to look big. I've had this system nearly a month now and
it's fantastic.

Now, remove yourself from Daddy's computer, and go back to whatever it is
you should be doing...

Cheers 'r', system, although still a little jerky, seems to have become a
bit more stable now. Thanks for the really good advice from the link you
gave.

Cheers

I had the same problem til just now, not sure if it was because of the bios
reset or because of that i changed the ide spots from secondary to primare,
anyhow, it works flawless now. it used to be slower than normal and the sound
would be choppy if you used the cpu, also newer cpu craving games would have
an regular frame freeze once every second.. you might aswell try one of
those, it helped me, and it dosn't take more than 10 min to test..
