winxp desktop is larger than viewable screen

I have WinXP Professional, ATI Radeon 7000 and an EIZO T563-T monitor. I had
no service pack installed! After I installed service pack 2, any resolution
above 640x420 makes my desktop larger than the viewable screen area and I
have to move my mouse to go to the 4 corners of my desktop.
I have already updated the Radeon drivers and I 've also tried changing the
monitor drivers to "Plug-and-Play monitor", but I still have the same
problem.

Use your monitor controls to size your screen both horizontally and
vertically.

I know exactly what you talking about. I do not have an answer for you but
what you see does not suppose to happen until much higher resolutions.

I am not sure how the video driver determines this limit but I have a
similar problem that did not happened until I reached resolution above
2048x1536. But as of my latest updates of both, the WindowsXP to SP2 and the
latest ATI drivers this limit changed to 1600x1200. I do not know why, since
the monitor I use is capable 2048x1536.

So one thing you may want to try is to force your device manager to
recognize the type of display which by the way also changed during the
latest updates to always see only "default monitor" instead of the type that
you actually have. In my case, I have ViewSonic 21inch P815 monitor that
used to be automatically recognized but no longer unless I provide the
drivers supplied with the monitor.

Also try changing the refresh rate of the monitor in Advanced Display
properties. The combination of refresh rate and resizing using the
monitor controls should be able to resolve this.
