Please Help! Something happened to XP Home system. Upon reboot, it takes a
very long time to get to a desktop and then no icons appear. I CTRL+ALT+DEL
and after several minutes, task manager appears. Explorer.exe is taking up
100% CPU. When I end that process, Winlogon.exe takes 100% CPU. Same
behavior if I login with safe mode and last known good menu. I can't do
anything to stop Winlogon process and I'm at a complete loss at this point.
Is the only thing left a reinstall of OS. I think spyware may have gotten
to this. I have antivirus protection so I dont' think it was a virus.
Please help!

Thanks!

Do you happen to be running norton auto-protect .
If so shut it down and see if the problem goes away. If it does - get rid of
Norton and install the free avast antivirus. Just do a search and download
the free version.

No, this machine has McAfee from Dell.

:(
