I recently scaned two hard drives (C and D)for viruses. I
found the following viruses in the C drive,W32blaster,
pws.hooker.trojan, w32swen.a@mm, w32Bugbear.b@mm, and
w32.hllw.gabot.gen. In the D drive I found 95.hybris.worm.
Norton repaired four of the infected files, and
quarantined four. I deleted the four files in quarantine.
After cleaning the drives, I scaned again, and found no
viruses. After installing the drives in the machine, I
can't open any application, I get the message (Windows
Cannot find) whatever file I try to open. I can open
folders, but not applications. I would appreciate any
suggestions.

Hi Bob,

All those bugs screwed up the .exe file association. Go to
ftp://12.107.147.141/regfiles and copy exe_fix.reg to your system.
Double-click it and allow it to merge with your registry. It will reset the
defaults and should correct the problem immediately.

Rick, thanks for the reply. I followed your suggestion,
copied the file to a floppy and tried to run it. When I
tried to run the file I got the message (exe_fix.reg not
a valid win32 application). The operating system on this
drive is windows XP professional. any help appreciated.

Hi Bob,

You gota bad file copy, try again, but don't run it from a floppy, run it
from your desktop.

Hi Bob,

It's not an application, it's a reg file. You can make the changes manually
if needed. If you right-click the file, there should be a "merge" option -
try it.
