Hi...

Is a good idea to have a small server for a small business with Windows XP
Profesional?, the network will have more or less 10 clients. I have worked
with Windows XP Pro before and I think is a great, stable and enough for a
small business. I'll appreciate your opinions

Thanks

Well XP Pro. doesn't really supply any server services other than IIS. XP
Pro. can't act as a domain server, so you won't have central security, you
will have a Peer-To-Peer network. What did you want to use it for?

That depends on the "more or less" part. Windows XP Professional Edition
will only support ten simultaneous network clients ... so if the "more" part
is "more than ten" then your plan will fail.

I would suggest that you use a server operating system, because that's what
it is designed for. Windows XP, despite its advances, is still intended for
use only as a desktop operating system.

The server will supply connection to all the clients to a central database
locate in the Server through a Business Software we bought.

We really don't need many of the features of Windows Server, maybe a bit of
IIS for an intranet, something basic nothing big.
