My computer will not do the windows update - "it has encountered an error
and cannot display the requested page" I know this is typical if windows XP
was reinstalled, in this case it has never been, its still as is from the
manufacturer. I have several issues that I'm told will be corrected if I
update, but I can't.

Is there a link to download the file directly. I was thinking I could get it
from another computer and install it on the problematic computer.

Thanks for any help.

Microsoft has a troubleshooting page that will help
resolve your problem:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/

Good luck. FMiller

There is a few things that I try when this error occurs....
1) Delete all temp internet files by going to tool>Option
2) In the root, there is a file folder called WUTemp you can delete this file as wel
3) Keep trying... There have been times that I have not been able to get past the error page for hours. Then suddenly it work correctly. I figure its related to traffic or server side update
Sometimes these temp files confuse the system scan. By wiping the slate clean, the scan may be able to come up with an update list a little easier
Hope this helps some

Make sure that "write caching" is not selected on the hard disk. I had the
very same problem on a friends pc and went thru all of MS suggestions to no
avail. This might work for u.
