Okay, this is not a bug, but a feature that puts the
Windows version number on the desktop for quick
reference. This is not normally turned on however.

To turn it off do the following steps.

Click the start button and then click "Run"

in the run text box that opens erase anything that might
be there already and type c:\windows\regedit.exe and
click OK.

It'll then open up a program called RegEdit, which is
devided into a left pane and a right pane. In the left
pane look for the folder icon with HKEY_CURRENT_USER
label. click the plus sign + next to it to expand it.
from the list that opens select the + next to the Control
folder and then from the list that opens actually click
the "Desktop" folder icon not the plus sign.

Now you will get a list of values in the right pane.
Scroll down and look for the one that says
PaintDesktopVers... (it has a blue 011110 icon not the
red ab) double click that icon next to
PaintDesktopVers... and a box will come up. There will
be a text area and in your case it should have the number
1 in it. Delete the 1 and change it to a 0 (zero) click
OK and then exit RegEdit.

Now log out and then log back in. If all went well the
version number should be removed from the lower right
hand corner of the desktop.

Hope This Helps
