I have a problem where upon startup, XP goes
through 'normal' booting until it reaches 'Windos is
starting up' blue page and the hard drive stops processing
and the page just hangs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

The blue screen is not the 'blue wall of death' but XP's
own starting up screen with the windows icon.

I have previously had the 'wall of death' but rebooted my
system and everything was fine.

I was pretty sure i had a virus and Norton had not
detected this so i was advised to use DrWeb. This detected
two .rbf files and prompted me to restart my PC. From then
on i only get as far as the windows start page.

I can start in safe mode but interms of system restore,
there is no reference point available to restore to and
the same as last good configuration.

Regards

The blue screen i described is the standard XP staring up
page with the windows icon...not the blue 'wall of death'.

My broadband connection was disconnecting and i thought i
had a virus. Norton did not detect anything and i received
some advice to try either RAV or DrWeb.

I ran DrWeb which detected two .rbf files and prompted for
a restart.

Upon issuing a restart command, windows would no longer
complete boot-up.

I can run it in safe mode and i tried a system restore but
there was no reference point to restore to.

Hope this helps.
