Windows Freezes During Installation

I just purchased a new system, and when I'm installing
windows, it first copies the files from the cd to the
hard drive, but after that, it reboots and attempts to
load from the hard drive, it freezes right during the
screen with the xp logo. The little bar with the blue
line that scrolls across it just stops moving and then it
freezes. I am wondering what could cause this.
Everything on the system is brand new and should be
functioning normally. If there is a defective part,
which one would cause this problem? Thanks to anyone who
can help!

Sounds like you may have a hardware compatibility problem, though it would
be pretty surprising with a new machine.... you can check the HCL and cross
reference the components in your system to make sure they will work.

HCL:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prba_dwp_iwpy.asp

MS also has a good troubleshooting guide here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/getstarted/troubleshoot.mspx

It is an odd problem to have with an all new machine, and I wonder if you
don't somehow have a corrupt set of bits.
