A month or two ago, I had a spyware problem that linked itself with my
internet settings in the registry. This caused all pings to look wrong. ex:
*Command Prompt*
ping sbm2
pinging sbm2 [(degrees symbol, followed by accented "y" character]
You can imagine how fun that was.... Anyways, we fixed that....twice... One
of the methods we used to try and fix this, was re-instaling windows. We did
this, and the spyware problem stepped up to a new level; explorer crashes.
So, we ran a spyware scan, got rid of it, and fixed the problems. Afterwards,
we put on a MSDN copy of XP-SP2. Now, the login screen shows up as a dialog
box, instead of the normal XP login screen, the Task Manager shows that I am
a connected user, which can be disconnected, and leaving all other processes
running in the backround, and finally, you cannot restart, logoff, or shut
down the computer from the Task Manager. Is this normal? If not, what should
be done to fix this?
