MATTHEW MAHLER

I just bought a new Dell Dimension 2.4 Gig Celeron with 768MB of DDR Ram. It
is running Windows XP Home. I took my DVD Burner out of my old PC which was
a generic PC that had a 1.8 gig AMD Athlon which had 512MB running Windows
XP Professional. When I burned a DVD in my old PC it burned them quick, in
about 15-20 minutes @ 16X. When I try to burn in my new PC it took 1 hour.
It said it was burning it @ 16x but I really don't think so. I used Copy2DVD
and Nero, they both did the same speed. My PC also runs really slow when I
do this process. Why? I have alot of RAM and a fast processor so I am at a
loss.

Matthew, try installing the DvD on the Secondary IDE channel as Master.
Then make sure that all your Intel chipset drivers
are up to date. Finally, rt click on MyComputer>select
Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>IDE/ATAPI Controllers>
Expand and rt click on Secondary IDE Controller>Properties>Advanced
Settings>Select DMA in Transfer Mode Field.

I tried what you have told me and it still writes at a low speed. Should I
just reinstall XP Professional and forget about XP Home?

Mathew, if the Dell came with WinXP Home and it's brand new then your OS
shouldnt be holding you back.
I would try using a different IDE Ribbon cable. 18" max. Try 40 wire
if you are using 80wire or vice versa.
