Hi,

Likely an MRU entry. Start/run regedit

Click edit/find

Search for A:\

It will most likely turn up in a key containing MRU (for Most Recently
Used).

Highlight the string in the right pane by left clicking it, click
registry/export and save it to a location you can find later if necessary.
Then delete that string, and agree to the warning.

If there are problems resulting from the deletion, you can simply
double-click the exported copy to return things to the way they were. If all
goes well, then you can simply delete the exported copy at a later date.

Hi:
I have the EXACT same problem, ... in my case, it(a
kind 'clattering noise'/annoying noise) starts every time
after using 'floppy disks/A-Drive' to copy files,
mostly 'Word' folders.
Sometime before, late last year, I posted here, N.G.,
and someone here said that Norton is doing, ... any
foreign is regarded to 'check first' that causing this
NOISE.
Afterwards, in order to 'let it go,' I just insert 'a
floppy(any) disk' in the 'slot' to calm it down.
Strangely, after done this two or three times, 'NOISE'
almost stopped.
*Note, ... you need to repeat this, every time AFTER the
usage of A-Drive,... for instance, if you use A-Drive in
the morning, it might last until you get off
computer, ... because this is to be 'each,' ... 'not once
a day things.' In my case, when stopped using A-drive
(floppy) next day, it completely stopped. But, I
love 'old floppies,'(it's a kind 'nostalgistic), then I
don't mind it at all, ... some EXTRA effort, putting it
in and out.

I have no understanding of the problem/solution but the following Knowledge
base article seems to be addressing a similar problem, althoug the article only
makes reference to Win 95 and 98. Incidentallly, the value in that registry
entry on my PC is 0x00000091 (145).

SYMPTOMS
When you double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop, your computer may
access the floppy drive for several seconds before displaying the contents of
My Computer.
CAUSE
This behavior can be caused by an incorrect registry value.
RESOLUTION
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems
that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor
incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Note: The value of the NoDriveTypeAutoRun entry should be 95 00 00 00, if it is
not, continue to step 3.
Double click NoDriveTypeAutoRun.
Change the Binary Value to 95 00 00 00.
Click OK.
Close Registry Editor.
Restart the computer for the changes to take affect.
The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
