Why can't I see thumbnails of some MPEGs?

I have a bunch of MPEG files in a certain folder. When I place the
folder into a thumbnail mode, I can see the thumbnails of some MPEGs,
but on other MPEGs WinXP just shows a black square.

What can I do to rectify this?

Hi Frank,

On some MPEG files, the first frame, or even the first few milliseconds of
video are black, similar to the beginning of a VHS tape. The only way to
rectify this would be to edit the video, removing a small chunk from the
beginning so the video starts with an image in the first frame.

Hello Frank,

Thank you for posting here.

I am glad to provide some information as a supplement.

If you configure the thumbnails view, the MPG files will display the first
frame in its video.

MPEG1.jpg: It contains two MPEG files that first frame is not a black page.

MPEG2.jpg: It contains a MPEG file that first frame is a black page.

Thanks and regards,
Alex Zhang
