Weird IE Problem

Alright, here's what's going on. Last night, all the sudden IE stopped making
requests for webpages...Here are teh symptoms:

1. IE loads fine, my homepage is a local file, so the homepage loads
correctly.
2. When trying to go ANYWHERE, iE returns 'page cannot be displayed'
3. This includes using a hostname or a direct IP.
4. It also includes my router's homepage, so it's on the intranet as well.
5. All my other applications access the internet fine. This includes: 2
other browser-like applications, Trillian (IM client), Outlook, mIRC, and
more.
6. Another computer on my LAN works perfectly fine, which is the computer I
am typing this from.
7. I have checked EVERY setting possible for IE, and all looks fine.
8. I've even checked settings for my connection, even though nothing should
be wrong with it since everything else works fine.

Other things to know:
1. Before this happened, I went on a site that at first seemed fine, but
once I saw the 'busy' cursor for my mouse...after the page was done loading,
I KNEW something was up. I immediatly closed IE and started to search and
destroy. I use my HijackThis and my brain to kill these f***ing things. You
gotta get them right away. I know where to search and how to destroy properly.
2. I've gone over everything at least 5 times now. Checked everything I know
of. Too many things to list of what I did exactly.
3. I use Windows XP Pro with SP2 and IE 6.0.2900.2180 (Win XP SP2 version) I
installed SP2 a while ago, so that has nothing to do with this.
4. I use a static IP, so it's not the DHCP. And it's not the DNS either.
5. As you can tell, I'm not stupid when it comes to computer. Please only
reply if you understand everything I said and have a good suggestion. I'm
looking for professional-like support. Thank you.

I thank you for replying to my post, but not to be rude...and sorry if I
am...but didn't you see the part that said 'do not reply if you don't
understand what I had all said.'? I clearly stated that I was looking for a
professional type of solution, and not what you gave me. I am not trying to
put you down, and I encourage you to help others, but this problem is not for
beginners.

<smack> Take a hike, Justin. We're *all* volunteers here and most posters
are grateful for *any* response. If you want "expert technical support",
pay for it.

Jeez...

<applause> Bravo for trying, Emrys! Though dated, Q241344 does mention some
of the possible causes of OP's problem.

"attaboy" to Emrys for putting out an attempt to help. Please place on "Aw
Shit" in your basket Justin. As PAB stated - this is a support group of
volunteers - for your professional response, there are a ton of consultants
out there ready willing and able to put up with your childish attitude and
accept your money.

Everyone here is a volunteer. I suggest checking out

Good then you can use netcap to see what IE is trying to send, where,
and what the server is responding with. Further, you can use Ethereal
to format the resulting .cap file and compare equivalent traces involving
other browsers, to check for timing differences.

A new feature in XPsp2 is the new winsock reset command.
However, before using it please check for me if any of these diagnostics
show anything:

netsh winsock show catalog type=LSP

ipseccmd show filters

(ipseccmd is on the XP Pro Support Tools)

BTW in spite of the fact that your symptoms seem to be isolated to IE
you may get better suggestions in a newsgroup which specializes
in networking for your OS.

Good luck

Justin,

I'm having the same *&^* problem you're having. I've even
tried re-installing ie6, but no luck. There are NO pages
that display, though I can ping every site. Let me know
if you figure anything out!!!!!
