Please help! We have a student unable to control the mouse cursor and are
looking for keyboard alternatives in Word. We can navigate and select the
file we need but are not able to actually open it.

This is a Microsoft Access forum. You need to be in one of the Microsoft
Word forum.

That aside, click the "tools" menu at the top of word, go down to
"custimize" and click that. I window will open. On the bottom of it you'll
see "keyboard". Click that. If you look under "File", you'll see an option
for "FileOpen". Click on that. On the left hand side you'll see currently
set keyboard shortcuts to operate that command (fileopen) (not fileopen:).
Maybe one of those will work or you can set your own. However, if you set
your own you will delete the keyboard shortcut that currently uses whatever
keyboard combination you choose.

At least that's how it works for Word 2003.
