wave sound file..no sound!!!!!!

Hi all,
I tried to record a "wave sound file" using my microphone and the sound
recorder. the progress meter goes but when i try to play it back there is no
sound just a steady green line on the sound recorder it is the 1st time i
have tried the sound recorder so can anyone see were i am going wrong? can i
use this as a dictophone?
did the sound test and it says device is working properly but there is still
no sound.

dont bother to reply ive sorted it.

Try turning on the mike. Try Unmuting the mike. Try reseting the mike
plug in the microphone socket.
