VLOOKUP FORMULA IS DISPLAYED AS THE RESULT

I am using a VLOOKUP, but Excel displays the actual formula in the cell, not
the retun value. The return value in the formula box is correct, however.

Your CELLS are still in the text format.
Highlight the cell and go to the menu Data>Text to columns>Finish
