USB Mass Storage Problems

USB Flash disk will not work on my PC (ot works on other
PC's). When I plug in the USB flash disk, the device
appears in the list but is not operational (code 10).
When I go to MSINF032 and look under the Problem Devices,
I see the "USB Mass Storage Device" with correct VID &
PID however there is an error message "This device cannot
start".

I've tried removing this device from Device Mgr and re-
installing it all with no different results.

Is there some service that must be running for these
devices to be automatically configured? Is there a way to
reload the appropriate drivers.

Try this:

Click Start-Run-Type regedit and click OK. Now expand to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

Find and delete the folder starting with Vid_Xxxx that contains the
problematic flash drive. Make sure the drive is disconnected when you
delete this key. Reboot after you have deleted it and then plug it in.
It should work after that ;)

With this I get a little further in that the device is
now recognized as a USB Mass Storage Device instead of an
Unknown Device. However the device still shows in the
MSINFO32 as a problematic device with the message "this
device cann not start".

I tried updating the usbstor.sys file however nothing
improved.

Any other clues

Rob

That is really odd. You should have shell hardware and plug and play
services enabled, but they are on by default and you probably haven't
been playing around in there. Does this device work on other computers?

I have the same issue with my system, and have tried the
same things as you Rob. I am at a loss as to why this is
happening. I just jumped in here to see if I could find
any help. Anyone got any suggestions?
