I have an Attache USB memory stick. It initially had
information stored on a Win 98 system. When I plug it
into my USB port, it is appears to be recognized. Atleast
I see an icon in my systems tray. The problem is when I
go to "My Computer", I don't see the flash memory drive
as an option. How can I get Win XP to recognize this
storage device so that I can access it? I appreciate any
help

Hi,

Do you have any network drives mapped, or more than two or three local (HDD
or CD) drives?
There is a known glitch with XP whereby it will sometimes assign the same
drive letter to a removeable USB drive as is assigned to an existing drive,
rendering the USB drive inaccessible.

Try going to Computer Management (right-click the desktop My Computer icon,
select Manage), then clicking Disk Management in the left hand pane, and see
if the USB drive is listed in the top right pane. If so, and it's been given
an existing drive letter, then you can reassign it from here.

Hope this helps..

Thanks for your response. The drive is in the Disk
Management but is listed as not being initialized. When I
try to initialize this, I recieve a message taht it is
write protected. Any ideas on how to get around this?
Thanks in advance.
