I just upgraded one of my users to 2003. She's now telling me that her
macros are missing. Are they truly missing or hiding?

Any suggestions?

Lexi,

My bet is that they are hiding: to a search for personal.xls, and wherever
it resides, set the startup folder to that location using Tools | Options |
General tab, Startup box.

I expect they are 'hiding'. Macro are often stored in a file called
PERSONAL.XLS with lives in the XLSTART folder under Microsoft Office. On one
PC this file is in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11. Another PC,
which has had earlier versions of Office, has folders OFFICE10 and OFFICE11.
So look for something like this and move the file when found

best wishes

Macros are saved with the workbook or Personal.xls or in a*.xla add-in if one
was created.

First guess is that macro security is set to "High" and macros are not
available by default with no warning.

Check out the Security setting at Tools>Options>Security>Macro Security. Set
it "Medium" to get the "this workbook contains macros etc."

Second guess is that the user had her macros in Personal.xls and that file is
not being found or has been disabled. If disabled you will see that at
Help>About Microsoft Excel>Disabled items.

Personal.xls should reside in the XLSTART folder which by default in Excel
2003 would be at.......

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

Thanks guys for jumping on it. After being able to see the screen, it was
the macro security screen that was "causing the macros to be missing"
Changed that from high to medium, and she was happy. Thanks all!!
