unwanted installation

I just reformatted my hard drive in order to get rid of a
nasty problem with Office. Now, the second day into the
process, somehow a search menu has appeared on top of my
Explorer window. My home page, www.google.com, has been
replaced by ez-finder.com. No matter how many times I try
to set my home page back to google, the next time I open
Explorer, it's still there. No matter how many times I
close the search bar, it returns, not just in Explorer,
but also on every other new window in My Computer, too.
How did it get there and how can I rid my system of this
invasive and unwanted feature?

Sounds like you were installing your stuff while online, with no protection.
You should never allow your system to have internet access without a
firewall running, a virus scanner present, a spy sweeper running, etc. (PC
Magazine ran a test - it took 10 minutes for an unprotected system connected
to the web to get infected and corrupted.)

Go here nad download CWShredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html and see if it helps.

Also, install the other stuff, if you have it.
