David,
I have a Ph-D in teaching, but not computers. You do not
need to be so rude to me, other people were much nicer
and
helped me with the problem and gave good advice (thank
you
very much "Crusty" and afbosch, it was good of you to
help) I had no way of knowing where this message was
going, but at least me message was short and the replies
were also, except yours, WHICH ALSO posted at all the
places you stated. Turn the table now, if you are such a
expert, you could have replied to any one of those sites
and know it would get to me. I am glad that my friend was
correct and said 99% of the people here are very helpful
and then you have the 1% trash ego monsters. You do not
need to be my mother David and you sure could have found
a
better way to state the problem, you smart A response is
wat I would expect from my 12 yr old daughter at worst.
Thank you for the rest of the people that helped me out.
The ed x is much less now, but still have the problem,
but
I will not be ever asking questions on here again, I do
not need Type A people like David giving me a hard time !

That's almost 1 1/2 dozen News Groups. The majority
have
nothing to do with your problem.
Like Win98, MSN Discussion, Pocket PC or Tablet PC.
Thus
by posting to so many news groups
(aka; cross posting) you have done two things -- Abuse
the system by posting an Off Topic
subject to many News Groups and the mere fact of posting
to so many News Groups when one or
two are apropos. If the problem resided in viewing
objects in Internet Explorer 6 then an
IE 6 News Group is the ONLY News Group this needed to be posted to.

You don't have to be "an expert" but you do need to
learn
how to do the right thing !
As for munging. This is the art of obfuscating the true
email address in a News Group such
that the spammers, bots and the Swen worm have a hard
time or don't even get to your real
email address.

Examples:
(e-mail address removed)
{remove CLOTHES from my address to reply to me }

(e-mail address removed)

I understand that you may be having troubles but...

There is absolutely NO REASON to cross post this to so
many different MS News Groups !
Only Internet Explorer v6 News Groups are apropos.
Pease
modify your actions in future
posts.

In addition:
If you post to UseNet with your TRUE, not a munged,
email
address then you have invited the
swen Internet worm [aka; W32/Gibe-F] to visit you.

The Swen is news spelled backwards. The reason it is
called this is because the Swen worm
harvests email addresses from UseNet News Groups. It
has
an engine that allows it to post
itself to UseNet News Groups and well as it has its own
email engine. From the list of
email addresses that it has harvested, it will then
email
itself to those addresses.

My, my, my...a little touchy, aren't we? I have just read Dave's reply to
you and I find it to be very polite and helpful. Posting a message to half
of Usenet isn't going to get your question answered any faster and, indeed.
could lead to the termination of your account as it looks like spam
(especially when 90% of the groups are completely unrelated to your issue).

You didn't even cross-post - you multi-posted which is very confusing for
those attempting to assist you. If you must, post to no more than three
*pertinent* groups, stating them in the newsgroup field. Your response is
much more akin to a 12 year old with PMT, if you think Dave was being
"smart". Believe you me, you'd have received far, /far/ worse from many
people.

I think you owe Dave an apology.

Thanx for that statement.

In her original post, she did cross-post to 17 MS News Groups. In my reply, I broke those
17 up into three different replies of about 6 Nws Goups each. Only in this News Group did
she appear to reply.

David,
I have a Ph-D in teaching, but not computers. You do not
need to be so rude to me, other people were much nicer
and
lease read www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm and you may see why people get
very irritated at those posting independently into many different
groups. It is enough trying to get through the 1000 or so posts made in
this one group each day, without finding you have read - and maybe even
answered - them three times over.

I have been posting to Usenet for 15 years. I am well aware about Swen and
other nasties. Had you tried that address you would have found it was
invalid.

Off course not. I don't like sending unsolicited email.

celticnet.com is a vailid Domain and the email address used showed no obvuious obfuscation.

As an AV professional I'm just trying to reduce the number of newbies who do post using a
real email address and then bitch later why they are getting the Swen Internet worm.

I think this is kind of amusing. I agree with David 100% about munging your
address, but I can remember just a short time ago being called all kinds of
names and being accused of being some kind of "hacker", "spammer" etc by an
"MVP" simply because I used a munged return address. How times have changed!
;-)
